On Sabbath August 9th, 2003, the group HisMix hosted a concert in celebration of one of their member who has moved to Florida. August 9th was LaToya’s last Sabbath at Genesis and the group saw it fit to honor her in a concert entitled “Love, Life and Laughter” a replica of Christ as seen in LoToya’s ministry at Genesis. Under the management and directorship of Sis. Claudette Dixon-Kerr, HisMix put on one of their most memorable performance ever.
It was a dreary rainy day and as Genesis spent the morning and lunch time honoring the Green family for their contribution to the Church, the group prepared for the evening program to honor and say goodbye to this outstanding young lady. It was approximately half an hour before the commencement of the concert when the Genesis sanctuary was filled with our visitors from University Heights Church, who came to share in our AYS program they had no idea they were gonna be in for a treat. In the introduction of the program Sis Dixon-Kerr spoke of the impact LaToya had on the group, and on her peers. She mentioned how LaToya had grown to be a beautiful flower budding with love, life and laughter.
She shared with the congregation the impact LaToya had on the group and how she could be the “group’s clown” and yet a Leader at the same time, gaining the respect and admiration from her peers. The first number that was done represented the love we should have for Christ, placing Him in our Hearts “For Always”.
This piece was received with tumultuous applause. Then they went on to represent, Life as they signed to the song “Flying without Wings” , this piece had a most spectacular ending as one of their members leaped from a chair and into the arms of the remaining six ladies depicting a person flying.
In the number representing laughter the group choose “When we Praise” as the song and the signs indicate that Praise should and is a happy occasion. In the middle of the concert the entire group consisting of members; Avonielle Brown, Allukeisha Guy, LeKeisha Headley, Dionne Simon, Yaneka Williams and Monique Wright payed special tribute to LaToya and presented her with a “Built with Love” teddy bear which they made for her. This was truly a touching moment.
Pastor Ivor Keizer would not be left out and just before the last piece was performed , he came forward and paid tribute to Latoya. In his address he mentioned the impact she had on the church and how much she would be missed. Of course a HisMix concert is not complete without the ultimate message. As they did their final number “We Shall Behold Him” once again they received a standing ovation. I, as a writer was enthralled by the entire performance and I am sure all who viewed it were truly blessed. In closing I say to LoToya Green, continue to take Christ in your Heart “For Always” , continue to live out your dreams in life as Christ help you to make them a reality when you “Fly without Wings” , continue to spread laughter as you live and praise.
Finally I say to all of us Continue to strive as Christians to emulate Christ as we prepare to “Behold Him”. Peace, Love and Happiness, God Bless. From: ChristsChild |
